At last a win!

Sangakkara’s 94 in just 54 balls held firm as wickets fell regularly at the other on the batting-friendly strip of the PCA stadium.

Kumar Sangakkara's confident 94-run knock coupled with disciplined bowling fashioned Kings XI Punjab's 66-run victory over Mumbai Indians in their Indian Premier League match on Friday.

The hosts then restricted their opponents to 116 for 9 in their quota of 20 overs with Chawla coming up with a brilliant four-over spell, in which he claimed two wickets. Brett Lee also produced exceptional figures of 4-0-9-1 while Irfan chipped in with two wickets in his team's first victory in the tournament.

Earlier, Piyush Chawla and Irfan Pathan struck twice before a breathtaking left-handed catch from an air-borne Yuvraj Singh removed dangerman Shaun Pollock. That dismissal reduced Mumbai to 105 for eight in the 16th over and the result was never in doubt.

The visitors paid the price of not building partnerships as batsmen succumbed to pressure of soaring run-rate and plunged to their third successive defeat.

The poorly named Mumbai Indians have had a string of bad luck, or perhaps bad captaincy, in the Indian Premier League Twenty20 series. They currently share the bottom of the points table with the Deccan Chargers.

Following the match Kings XI bowler Sreesanth was spotted in tears after an incident with Harbhajan Singh.

It is alleged that stand-in Mumbai captain Harbhajan Singh had struck Indian team-mate and IPL rival Sreesanth in the face.
