Gilchrist steers the Deccan Chargers to register their first win of the tournament.

It was raining sixes and fours from the bat of the former Australian wicket-keeper as he started his onslaught with two fours in the first over from Ashish Nehra. He then went on to treat all the bowlers with disdain as the ball disappeared to all parts of the ground. Adam Gilchrist smashed the fastest century in a Twenty20 game in just 42 balls as Deccan Chargers routed the Mumbai Indians by 10 wickets in their DLF Indian Premier League match.
Gilchrist was at his imperious best reaching his century from just 41 balls, fittingly bringing up three figures with a towering blow over the midwicket boundary off Abhishek Nayar - his third six of the over. The left-hander also added nine fours in his innings of 109 from 48 balls.
Earlier, When Mumbai Indians batted, Nayar, sent out at number six behind experienced, established strokeplayers, overshadowed the likes of Jayasuriya and Robin Uthappa with a ferocious 19-ball 34. Dwayne Bravo was equally busy scoring 34 (18 balls).
For Chargers, it was a performance long overdue. A side that boasts of some of the most feared hitters in the game, they had played poorly up to this point. However, Gilchrist's magical touch could now turn things around for them in the tournament.
